September 1972, Justice League of America #101 Cover, Nick Cardy pencils/inks, “The Hand That Shook the World”, My Grail JLA cover. I have been quietly searching for this cover since I started collecting about 12 years ago; I never saw it or ever heard of anyone that knew where it resided. That was because it was hanging on the wall of a private collector for over 26 years! I drove over three hours early this morning up to the Boston area and met with him and purchased it! It’s not too often that this 53 year old guy gets to feel like an 11 year old child that first purchased this comic off the newsstand in 1972 and was introduced to the JLA and the JSA at the same time! The cover features the Justice League of America: Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, and Hawkman; and the Justice Society of America: Hourman (Rex Tyler), Starman (Ted Knight), the Golden Age Sandman (Wesley Dodds); The story began in JLA #100 and concluded in JLA #102; the two groups, the JLA and the JSA, split up and continue their quest from the last issue to reunite the Seven Soldiers of Victory, who are scattered throughout time as the Hand begins to make his move in the present. The Seven Soldiers are scattered throughout these eras: King Arthur (Shining Knight); Caveman/Bronze Age (Star-spangled Kid); Midieval England (Green Arrow); Ancient Greece (Speedy); Late 1800's Wild West (Vigilante); 1600's South America (Crimson Avenger); 1800's Europe (Stripesy).
